SweatyYaYa is a blog about all things yoga moderated by Kathy Digby and Seth Davis.
Kathy is starting her 10th year as a student of Iyengar yoga from Bruce Roger at Yoga St. Louis. She has been assisting Bruce since 2002 and began teaching 2004. She also studied at the RIMY Institute in Pune, India in 2007. Kathy is also a seamstress and owns and operates Handmade Yoga Props. She is preparing for her Iyengar yoga national assessment this fall.
Seth is Kathy's husband. He has been an off/on student of Bruce's since 2005. He has no aspirations to be a teacher, but helps out when and where he can.
The name SweatyYaYa is a light mispronunciation of the Sanskrit word: svãdhyãya. Svãdhyãya is the practice of self-study and is one of the niyamas (observances) presented in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.

In the short-term, we are planning on filling this blog with weekly updates from Kathy related to her yoga classes and her path to assessment this fall. Additionally, we are thinking about demonstration video-casts of poses (likely related to the weekly update).
ReplyDeleteLooking down the pipe, Kathy will be attending workshops in the following months, so we'd also like to feature interviews with senior Iyengar teachers. We may be able to recruit an article or three from Bruce. And I've expressed an interest in dropping in an illustration from time to time.
